Gi
Gi classes utilize a uniform known as a kimono or Gi as it's widely known in BJJ. This is the judo-style uniform you will see people wearing during class with belts around their waists. These classes focus on learning the martial art of BJJ with a focus on griping the uniform of training partners. The class is taught with an emphasis on techniques that translate to a sport setting but are also very applicable for self defense situations.
No Gi
No Gi classes do not utilize a uniform. Participants wear shorts & a t-shirt or similar tight-fitting athletic gear such as rashguards. This class is also taught with an emphasis on techniques that translate to a sport setting but also have significant applications for self defense. Since there are no “grips” to rely on, No Gi tends to be much more dynamic.
